Our family spent the entire day here taking in as many activities as possible (kids are 5 & 7). We arrived shortly after it opened and didn't leave until after 6. My kids had the most fun doing the fossil casts, but they also enjoyed all the other activities. They enjoyed the activities more then walking the museum itself. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable. If your kids love dinosaurs, this is the place to visit. Our family had a great time!
It's been a few years since my last visit, but it gets better every time. The displays are extremely well done, with lots of interactive stuff. Great for all ages. Plan to spend a good two or three hours making your way through the exhibits. Longer if you if you have anyone in your group even remotely interested in dinosaurs Easily one of the best museums in Western Canada. If you're visiting Calgary, make a point to visit. Definitely worth the drive
Excellent educational place for all types of visitors. You can tell that there has been a sincere amount of effort put into educating people on big scientific ideas that are glossed over in other museums. In addition to the dinosaur bones (the main attraction), the museum sets up the context for those exhibits through explanations of the Big Bang theory. The exhibit walks through the progression of the universe (and life) up until and past the time of the dinosaurs. This is probably one of the most cohesive exhibits I've had the pleasure of visiting. Excellent experience for families and children, especially.
Incredible place! Our second visit had to be a little rushed due to time constraints but still completely worth it. AMA membership got us 10% discount too! Great place for all ages. Totally accessible for all abilities. Even if you don't like dinosaurs you will love this space! Everything from an entire t-rex skeleton to actual preserved full head fossils, there is something for everyone. The 5 year old loved the interactive globes dotted throughout. The 8 year old loved the explanations of natural selection and the view into the working fossil lab. The adults loved the atmosphere and the full size scenes set up throughout. Cafe inside is expensive, slow but a welcome break from the drive most take to get there. Highly recommend this place for all ages and interests!
This place is amazing for kids and adults. The drive is so worth it. It takes about 90 minutes from Calgary, and the scenery is so cool to see. The museum is very well organized and has tons of exhibits. We got there a bit early and we were glad we did since it definitely got busier after 12pm. Parking is free, they have a large cafe/restaurant up front and a very large gift shop. Theres an expansion going on currently. Theres also an amazing playground and dinosaur dig area for kids to the left of the museum by the overflow parking lot. I cant recommend this place enough. We are from LA and would travel back to go here for sure. If your kids love dinosaurs then this is the place to be. Most of the bones were discovered nearby! You also drive through a town on the way there that is nothing but dinosaurs!
